In this letter Ebenezer Rockwood Hoar states that he does not think his speech at the reunion of the Free Soil Party should be printed, as his words were hastily uttered. Text
Concord, Aug. 24, 1877.
My Dear Mr. Downer,
I hardly feel justified even in making myself "an accomplice after the fact" toward reprinting the few hasty words which I uttered at your pleasant festival. But if you will not be so kind as to leave what I said out of your pamphlet, I think the corrections I have made will improve it.
Very truly yours,
E. R. Hoar.
