My Dear Mr Downer:

I thank you for the pains you are taking.

I only suggest two changes: one to substitute a clause, embracing about the …[illegible]… number of words, for the printed clause embraced by me in brackets, + crossed out: and another …[illegible]… verbal alteration duly marked in the margins.

If this change can be made my intended meaning will better be expressed
