Letter from James N. Buffum to Samuel Downer accepting his invitation to the reunion
Description
In this two-page letter James N. Buffum thanks Samuel Downer for his invitation to the reunion of the Free Soil Party. He says that he recently spoke to his friend, John G. Whittier, and they agreed that a reunion would not only be pleasant but would also do a great deal of good. He then briefly discusses his participation in the abolition movement and his constant affirmation of it. He then accepts the invitation.

Mr. Samuel Downer
Dear Sir
I am much obliged to you for your kind invitation to the Reunion of the Friends of Freedom on the 9th of August. I was talking with my old friend and co worker John G. Whittier a few weeks since, and we both agreed that such a Reunion wou[l]d not only be a pleasant thing but would do much good at this time. My effort for the Abolition of Slavery dates back to 1831, which includes 1848 for I have never ceased to bear my testimony against that wicked system of oppression.

I shall avail myself of your invitation and be present with you on the 9th instant
I am most Truly Yours
James N. Buffum
