Stone enthusiastically accepts the invitation to attend the Reunion of the Free Soil Party and thanks Samuel Downer for bringing together those Free Soilers that are are still alive. On the back of page one along the right-hand side Samuel Downer has written Stone's name.

Dear Sir:

I shall cer-tainly accept your kind invitation to attend the re-union of the “Free Soilers of 1848” on the 9^th of August next, and I thank you with all my heart for your generous and well-timed effort to secure this meeting of such as are left of those who participated in the grand movement for human freedom

which the “Free Soilers” inaugurated.
