The back of the postcard contains Charles A. B. Shepard's message acknowledging receipt of and accepting the invitation to attend the Reunion of the Free Soil Party. He also discusses two other Free Soilers he admires. At the top of the postcard Samuel Downer has written the word "ChKd."

The front of the postcard from Charles A. B. Shepard is addressed to Samuel Downer. Along the left side Samuel Downer has written Shepard's name.

Your invitation came duly to hand but unfortunately I have mislaid it but should take great pleasure in attending "the meeting of the Saints."  Mr H. C. Allen of E. Allen No Franklin St Boston was of …[illegible]… and Mr F. H. Underwood care of Smith Organ Co was with us in Kentucky although he did not come to Mass until 1849 but he did good work
