This item is a photograph of Herbert L. Foss' gravestone. He was a sailor on the USS Marblehead (C-11) during the Spanish-American War. He received multiple medals, including the Congressional Medal of Honor, for his service. He participated in several important battles, including that of Cienfuegos. The image shows flags and wreaths around his gravestone, as well as other memorabilia pertaining to his service in the war and his participation in the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A metal plaque has been placed on the ground which also commemorates his service in the Spanish-American War. The gravestone is located in the Fort Hill Cemetery in Hingham, Mass.
