Letter from Wilder S. Thurston to Samuel Downer declining his invitation to the reunion

Description

In this letter Wilder S. Thurston thanks Samuel Downer for his invitation to the reunion of the Free Soil Party and then declines it. He states that there are many reasons for declining the invitation, one of them being that he does not want to spend more time at the beach and in the salty water atmosphere.

I thank you for your invitation to attend your gathering of old free soilers: but shall be obliged to decline the invitation, for reasons too numerous to mention; among which - not the smallest of them is that I have too much Salt Water atmosphere at home, and therefore it will not pay to go away to get more.
