Poem written for the reunion of the Free Soil Party
Title
Poem written for the reunion of the Free Soil Party
Description
This poem, written in honor of the Reunion of the Free Soil Party on August 9, 1877, discusses the importance of the Free Soil movement in ensuring justice and freedom for all peoples in the United States. It expounds upon the difficulties experienced by party members as they were mocked by those who opposed them, as well as the need for politicians to govern objectively and to not let their biases, or the biases of others, get in the way of ensuring that justice is done. At the top of the page, in pencil, it says "first proof."
