Letter from Ebenezer Clapp to Samuel Downer regarding a note from Winslow Battles requesting an invitation for Seth Mann

Description

In this letter Ebenezer Clapp states that he has received a note from Winslow Battles and he wants to make Samuel Downer aware of it. Clapp then says that knows the Battles family but not Winslow Battles. He continues on to state that he believes Henry Humphreys should be invited to the reunion of the Free Soil Party since he was one of the signers of the first Free Soil document. Dear Friend Downer

On the other page you will see a note I recd [sic] from W. Battles this morning which I thought you might be glad to know of.  I know the family although not personally acquainted this man.  I do not know as you have thought of our good neighbor Dea. [sic] Hum-phreys which I think was one of the original signers of the first document of the first town to commence the fight

Truly yours

Eben Clapp

Seth Mann 2d . Randolph

He used to vote for James G Burney [sic] prior to 1848.  Fine as steel to the present time.  He would like to be at the reunion - the 9th.  Can you get an invitation for him + send it to me this day.
