My dear Downer,
An old and prominent Free Soiler of '48 the Rev Prof Webster of Wheaton Ills, is here and would be glad to add to your number Thursday if your list is not filled.
Prof Webster, lived at that time in Hopkinton, thus a part of Palfreys old district and for nearly twenty years was an active anti slavery clergyman and Free Soil politician.
He preached in Amos A Phelps old pulpit and never abated[?] that earnest man preaching in behalf of the slave in the least.
I think it is possible you may remember him.
Faithfully Yours
W. Claflin
