The pamphlet begins with a preface which discusses the disappearance of the oration, its sudden appearance, and the importance of Daniel Webster to history. It also includes biographical information regarding Webster's life. In the following speech Webster discusses the importance of the Fourth of July and the perfection of government that was chosen for the young United States of America. He describes the freedom citizens in the USA have, as well as the equality they share. He also discusses the problems with other types of government. He expounds upon the Revolutionary War and the valor of the colonial soldiers who won it. He then describes the necessary steps that need to be taken by the government and citizens in order to preserve the freedom provided by the efforts of these soldiers.
