Milton August 4th, 1877.
Mr Samuel Downer.
Dear Sir,
I have received a most acceptable invitation from you to attend a reunion of the Free Soilers of '48 next Thursday at Downers landing. As an old Liberty Party man, a Free Soiler, and a delegate from Milton, to the Buffalo Convention in 1848, I shall be most happy to be present at the reunion; and although I may not listen to the word of the lamented John J. may, or that of the old war horse of the then West, - the indomitable J. R. Giddings, as I then did, I hope to revive pleasant reminiscences of the events of that year.
Respectfully yours, C. M. S. Churchill.
I have several sons who would like to be present if it is not asking too much, may I solicit, one or two additional invitations? if you are limited, you <insertion: will> exercise the same liberty in declining them, that I take in asking for them.
