Title

Letter to the Editor of the Hingham Journal by Daisy Janey

Description

This item is a letter to the editor of the Hingham Journal from Daisy Janey.  It was published in the newspaper on March 7, 1969.  Janey discusses the importance of the Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity (METCO) program in Hingham.  She states that in 1967 the School Committee voted unanimously to participate in METCO, and that it is free for the town since it is a state program.  She then discusses benefits the project brings to Hingham, including better educational opportunities for black students and a multi-ethnic environment for Hingham residents, and asks for more support of the program.  She closes the letter by saying that those who are against integration and providing better opportunities for black students should "examine their true feelings."
