In this letter, dated May 14, 1849, Senator Charles Sumner informs Solomon Lincoln that an English gentleman, Mr. Dalton, wishes to visit him. Sumner believes that Dalton has information regarding the history of the Lincoln family that he wants to share with Solomon Lincoln. Sumner also tells Lincoln that Dalton is a very well-respected, elderly gentleman.
