Letter from Thomas W. Higginson to Samuel Downer requesting help to attend the reunion

In this two-page letter Thomas Wentworth Higginson states that he cannot attend the reunion of the Free Soil Party because his schedule conflicts with that of the trains and boats. He asks the recipient if he/she has any other ideas concerning how he can get to the reunion on time.

                                                Aug. 6. 1877 

Dear Sir

I wish very much to go to yr.[sic] fete on Thursday but can't yet make it out.  I can't leave here in the early train, (for have reasons) - the second train does not reach Boston till aft 12.45 + that is too late for yr.[sic] 2^d boat - Nor is there a train fr.[sic] Boston to Hingham between 11.15 + 2.30.  (I suppose D. Landing is only a drive of some 2 miles from Hingham + I could reach Hingham in a Braintree station.  If you can think of any way in wh.[sic] I can get there, on the above state of facts, let me know.
