My dear Mr Downer
Rarely, if ever, have I received a note calling of so many and so interesting recollections as yours. I had hardly supposed that the '48 of this century, would be ever thus revived. Hayes[?] and Smith and Wm Richardson and Downers Bowling Alley and Down-ers Speech at Dedham, and all that crowd, and all those things are here again! And if the same speech can be heard a-gain at "Downer’s Landing", in-stead of the Bowling Alley, it will go hard with me but I shall be there. It is not quite certain, that we do not still need it. It is my purpose to be there.
