This item is a newspaper article from the September 3, 1915 edition of the Hingham Journal.  It discusses the escape attempt of two convicts who were given permission to wash themselves before being taken to court.  They assaulted Police Chief Washington James with a hammer and then ran from the building.  Although he was severely injured, James pursued the two escapees along with with a physician, two deputy sherrifs, and several others.  James shot and killed one of the convicts and the other was arrested.  He was then taken to his trial.  James was seen by a physician who stated that his injuries were extremely serious.
